Catch up (short version)

New Dr. Checked out Roo's head. He showed concerns for the same things I did.

He referred us to the hospital to have an Ultrasound done on roo's head to make sure everything looked good on the inside. Such as no pressure building anywhere, everything shaped, functioning properly.

We went and the US tech did all her pictures. Two dr's came in to take a look and talk to us. He is fine and everything looks great. The only concern they have also is that the soft spot is almost completely closed up. The dr said that in the future we may need a CT scan if his head doesn't "shape up" haha get it. okay, alright. But for now they are just watching him to make sure he is progressing instead of regressing.

For his lazy eye, I have been working with it now for as long as I have noticed it. Just cover the strong one to build up his weaker one. It seems to be doing great. The only time you really notice it now is if he is just not focusing on anything at all. But when he looks at you he looks with both eyes. Thank you Jesus for a great report and a healthy baby boy that is pulling through.

He is still having issues picking his head up to a 45 d angle. He should be able to do it by now (considering he was doing it at 3 weeks old). Now all he does is lay there and rub his head back and forth, as though he is trying but cannot do it. Our ECI tech came out and did is bi monthly assessment and said she is going to start OT, PT with him to help him reach that milestone.

Again we will be frequenting the dr to keep track on his head but for now he is picture perfect health and doing GREAT. He is getting so big. Really TALL. He weighs 11.14 and is 24 in long! Such a cutie!

Dr visit today!

We had Roo's dr visit today.

The new dr was amazing. He heard everything and was thorough in checking all my concerns.

He showed concern for the same things. We are going to have an ultrasound done on Roo's head
Friday morning. He said that Roo is right in the 50th percentile for his head. Hmmm, not sure if that is good or bad in this situation. Sounds good.

He agreed that we do need to be proactive though instead of hanging back and watching to see what happens. That makes me happy! I just have this gut feeling that something is up.

We have dealt with "misshapen" heads before and just alternate how they lay in our arms. It goes away QUICKLY. And I never worried about it. It was normal. This is NOT going away regardless of WHAT we do. It is getting worse and there are other signs that are causing concern. It does not feel normal... and I have to say I am beginning to worry.

So as this baby's MOTHER, I am standing up on his behalf... because he deserves it. And he is WORTH it!

I will keep you posted when we have the ultrasound done. Please keep our little Rooster in your prayers as you feel led!

Roo's head

***Update***
Okay so Blogger is having an issue where it is only posting some of the comments. When I hit submit some will go through and others will not, no matter HOW MANY times I try and submit it. So if you want to resend your comment go ahead, try, maybe it will send the second time. I will not publish both... just hoping one goes through. So Mandy and "The Caldwells" Your comments will not go through as of now. Sorry for any inconvenience. It isn't a big deal, just annoying really. Thank you for the prayers and for thinking of us!!! We will keep you all posted!

**Original Post**
Lately I have expressed concern for Roo's health. He has had a rough start in life. And at times it seems that it is still going.

From being in the hospital at 3 weeks old for 12 days, to having a hernia appear and having surgery to correct it as well as his circumcision that they failed to do at the hospital when he was born.

All wounds are pretty much healed and only scars are a reminder of the path he has traveled. He is a healthy little boy and is a delight to care for. We could not love him more!

So lately he has been really irritable and cries at the drop of a hat. Typically we would have thought it was colic or just a cry that babies love to do at times. This time I don't think so. Colic usually is gone by 6 weeks and this boy cries (screams) with force. Not loud, just deep and very forceful as though someone just whacked him with a hammer. And after only a minute of crying the bed is SOAKED from his TEARS... HUGE tears, streaming down his cheeks, flooding his ears.

He just seems to be in so much pain. I thought after his hernia surgery that would "cure" the pain issue. It hasn't.

So about a month ago he started developing this flat spot on the back of his head. Hmmm okay, we don't keep him on his back constantly and he is held on both sides of our arms (we have always done that to keep their heads rounded in the back) when feeding and holding. His soft spot is now almost completely closed up, you can barely find it.

What is more odd is toward the bottom of this flat spot there is a knot protruding from his head. It appears to be getting bigger to me and the "flat spot" above it seems to be sinking in some. If you mess with his head (rubbing lotion on or just brushing his hair down with your hand) he seems to get more irritable causing me to think there is something up with his head.

Anyway he has developed a lazy eye and can no longer lift his head to a 45 degree angle. I would not be so worried about it all except they just started happening about a month ago. It hasn't always been like that.

I talk to our dr about it and he is not concerned. We just "have to keep an eye out"... well I am just not okay with that answer so we have been seeking a second opinion. BUT with the "foster care superior health plan" we carry as insurance for our children, no doctors are taking (unless you go to a community clinic which is where we already go!).

Finally after venting my frustrations on facebook a sweet friend of ours said that she checked with a dr she goes to church with and he would accept us b.c he has a heart for foster families! THANK YOU JESUS!

I called today and have an appointment for tomorrow morning! I will be back with updates tomorrow! Please, if you feel led, PRAY for complete healing over little Rooster's body! He deserves better than what is happening to him.
