I take Bear outside for a closer look as he is into these things now. We watch at a distance for a bit then she decides to cut off into the creek for some privacy.
We go back inside to continue getting ready to meet up with our friends for some jumping fun and pizza!
When we were leaving we see the turtle IN our yard this time, right next to our porch...LAYING EGGS!
I got to looking around on our property (about an acre) and have found 2 more sites from turtle hatchlings. They are already abandoned and the egg shells are scattered around but I am keeping my eye on this nest.
I looked it up online and found that they typically take 2 mos to hatch so I have to go back out in about 85 days and watch for movement, so it says.
They are Red Eared Slider turtles, they are the ones sold in pet shops all over.
Last year we found a newly hatched one wandering the same road I saw this mommy one on. Almost the size of a quarter. SO CUTE! So if I catch them in time... if you want one... let me know. They are all yours! :)
I am thinking of building a fence around the site so they can't escape. I will put a "pond" in there with some turtle food no worries. Just so they will be safe.
