Okay so a while back we had purchased an underground storm shelter. The reason we bought it was because we live in a manufactured home and when there is a tornado warning we are DEMANDED to "ABANDON ALL MOBILE HOMES". Suuuuure! SO WHERE are we supposed to go??? We thought about the little wooden bridge out here but one night too many of seeing opossums run under the bridge was enough to deem that WILD KINGDOM and I was NOT nestling down with ANY opossums to stay "safe"!
Anywho enough tornado warnings and a GREAT tax return we were finally able to purchase one!
SINCE then however we have heard hide nor hair of a stinkin' tornado... NOT EVEN A WATCH! Not that I am complaining b.c I am NOT... I just think it is CRAZY that we have not had even a watch this spring/summer! I really don't want to drag 3 kiddos in the crazy weather down to a dark dungeon only to listen to them scream and cry for fear of the chaos and being ripped from sleep (b.c most ALL tornadoes around here happen in the middle of the night!).
So since we have not used it for very much other than a glorified cement mountain...the boys and I decided we were going to go decorate it! It serves as a GREAT mountain for them to climb and a wonderful slide to slip your way back to the bottom of the mountain. They have also been down in the cellar and LOVE playing in there for some reason. YES i leave the door open... sicko's :). hahaha. I even throw rocks in there for them to play with. Good mommy!
Might as well get some kind of use out of it right... :) I like it better being used for this. BUT in the event a tornado ever decides to come this way again then we will have a place to go that is opossum free AND HIGHLY decorated!!

I think that is a great idea! My friend's family retreats to an inner closet in their home. In order to get their daughter used to idea, they used to have closet parties and picnics, just for fun. That way, when a real storm came through, she wouldn't be so freaked out about going in there for hours on end. I'm jealous of your shelter, by the way. LOL

how funny! SO great that you have that, though- I can't imagine living somewhere that actually has warnings! We live in the mildest area in the US, I think! :)
Well of course you should decorate it! Maybe turn it into some kind of animal lurking out in the yard :)
We are running to your place when a tornado comes! haha
